Museum clean up on Feb 1
As one of the first actions, a clean up of the Trivandrum Museum is planned for this Sunday, February 1st 09. The time is fixed at 4 p.m. and everyone is welcome to join us.
A 2-hour trash pick up, spanning as much of the museum as possible is what we have planned. We will be using the big packets that you get in black or white colours from spencer to dump the trash we collect. In addition, gloves would prove good when you pick up all sorts of rubbish from the grounds. A trash pick-up is what is planned but we could still consider bringing long brooms, which may prove necessary.
As of now there are just 5 or 6 of us who have volunteered to come. If there are more, we could split into small groups and divide the work.
This is just a start. There is no need to be let down by the amount of sharp criticism or discouragement thats bound to rise. One day of cleaning wont do anything. I am hoping this could be taken on a weekly basis until it forces people to stop and take notice and realize it falls on the head of every individual to make a difference. The idea is to not stop trying and do these little things that you could… that every one of us could.
Anyone who is interested to join us please leave a comment or send an email to mail@tidycity.org
Please let know your interest before 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Awesome step crissie
Dont worry, you gonna make this hear loud some day..
It’d be a good idea to have T-Shirts/posters as PR with this website/blog on it, so that people know that :
a) Its an organised effort.
b) There’s an online forum to discuss it.
Can’t make it ’cause I’m out of the country, but good luck!
Fingers Crossed,
Cheers.
Remember to mention in the post that we will be meeting at the main museum gate, i.e. the one closer to LMS than Kanakakkunnu at 4PM and then move on from there
@Cherry, yes we are having plans for that. In the near future

Just a suggestion. I think it may attract some attention if you carry placards that say things like “Please don’t litter”, “Let us keep our city clean” and so on. This could attract media attention too. Please inform the media about your plans. And make awareness building one of the main objectives; means deliberately do things just to spread awareness. A talk about the duties of citizens to keep the environment clean, for instance, may attract attention. It would be good if you can carry some printed material that explains the duties of the citizens to keep the surroundings clean. And also why we should.
Sorry, hope this does not read like a long advice, though I know it does:-(
yo, tidycity.org great name for site)))
Great job dear!
All the best for your first initiative.. Wish I could join you..
Oh no Sir your advices are always welcome! We will have placards, but I dont know about notifying the media yet. It shouldnt be like we are making a lot of cry about a one-day activity just to get media attention. Although the idea behind the clean up drive is to spread the message, I dont want it to be taken in a negative sense – “These people are doing it just to get media attention” – I can imagine them say.
